Uniting the Past, Living the Present, Guiding the Future 2006

by Krista Roepke

Ever since the day I took a tour of Longwood as a Senior in High School (2004) I knew that I wanted to be one of the khaki-wearing, polo-shirted, name tag adorned Longwood Ambassadors. My tour guide was very animated and cheerful – just the kind of tour guide I knew I could be.

However, the years kept passing, and the idea of giving a mock tour (AKA tour guide audition) scared me half to death. Could I do it without freezing? Finally, during my Junior year, I decided that it was now or never.

So I did. Due to my nerves, I only remember bits and pieces of the tour. But I apparently did a good job, because a week or so later, there was a knock on my door. Glittery, blue and white decorations were everywhere, and there before me stood 5 smiling Ambassadors, announcing that I had made the cut.

I ran downstairs to my best friend’s dorm, and screamed, “I’M AN AMBASSADOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” and then immediately ran back upstairs and stared at my beautiful door for approximately 72 hours.

Even though I was only an Ambassador for two short semesters, I have many incredibly strong, happy memories. I was always so proud to show off my beloved school, and to rock the blue and white (put together various blue and khaki Ambassador outfits). I concluded my very last tour standing right next to Joanie on the Stonie in December of 2007. Someone on my tour took this photo, and it remains special to me even now, 6 years later.
